Soft Pastel Workshop - creating sunset skies and reflective seas.

April 11th, 2026, 10 - 16.00 at the Beacon Hub, Methodist Church, Portishead, UK.

Join me for a 1 day workshop where I'll teach you how to create this beautiful Cornish sunset using soft pastels. All materials will be provided, including use of an easel, premium branded pastels, pastel paper and the reference photo to work from. I'll slowly demonstrate and work with you step by step to create this seascape. We'll have plenty of time to go through all of your questions throughout the day. This workshop is open to all abilities and levels and I foster a relaxed and informal environment for you to learn in, keeping the workshops small and intimate, limited to no more than 12 students. During the day you will learn how to apply pastel, different types of mark making, how to correct a mistake, building up layers, how to create a glowing sunset, as well as practical information like which brands of paper and pastel I recommend, and how to store and frame your work. The aim of the course is to give you the confidence to continue using pastels confidently on your own after you've attended the workshop.
