New work in the making

New work in the making

It's July, we're enduring another heat wave, so what better subject to work on that 3 seascapes! It's been a couple of years since I worked on a large scale seascape, and unusually for me, I've decided to not just work on 1, but to work on 3 simultaneously. So i thought I'd share a quick behind the scenes of how they're progressing.

The first of the 3 had been fished but I'm having one of those 'Is it REALLY finished Michelle'? moments with myself. So I'm letting her languish on my studio walls. Sometimes they need to live with me for a while, before I decide if there really does need to be more done to it. This one measures 72x72cm.

The second one is the complete opposite. This one is dark and moody. I was fortunate enough to capture the most incredible reference photo in Pembrokeshire 2 summers ago. The sun was setting just behind some cliffs, and the setting rays caught the lip of the wave as it was breaking, igniting the water into an orangey fire, made all the more impressive by the deeply shadowed cliff behind. This one is a big statement paining, measuring 115cmx72cm wide! I suspect this will need at least another month of work to complete her.

The final painting is being drawn from a reference photo i took at the same place as the dark one, but slightly earlier in the day - the sun is just peaking behind the cliffs and the light flare coming out from the sky is absolutely breathtaking! Another painting with darks and luminous oranges and yellows. this one measures 90x72cm.

Happy painting!
